Car-free travel guide Part 1 – Scenic bus routes

As well as scenic railway lines, the Peak District is home to some beautiful bus routes!

Here are just a few of our favourites for scenery and points of interest, and connectivity between stations on the Buxton, Glossop or Hope Valley lines. Some link the lines together so you can more easily explore new places.

61 Glossop to Buxton

Operator: High Peak Buses

65 Sheffield to Buxton

Points of interest: Sheffield City Centre, walking at Grindleford, shopping, eating and arts in Buxton

199 Buxton to Manchester Airport

Operator: High Peak Buses

Travels to/near stations: Buxton, Whaley Bridge, Disley

Points of interest: Shopping, eating and arts in Buxton, canalside walks at Whaley Bridge, Lyme Park and walking at Disley

218 Sheffield to Bakewell

Operator: TM Travel

Travels to/near stations: Sheffield Interchange (opp Sheffield station), Dore and Totley Station

Points of interest: Sheffield City Centre, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, Ecclesall Woods, Chatsworth and shopping, eating and walking in Bakewell

257 Sheffield to Glossop and Castleton (Sundays only)

Points of interest: Sheffield City Centre, Glossop town centre for shopping and eating, caverns in Castleton

271/2 Sheffield to Castleton

Travels to/near stations: Hathersage, Bamford, Hope

Points of interest: Walking, shopping and eating in Hathersage, Hathersage Swimming Pool, cycle hire and outdoor activities at Bamford

393 Hadfield to Glossop

Operator: High Peak Buses

Travels to/near stations: Hadfield, Dinting, Glossop

Point of interest: Glossop town centre for shopping and eating, Longdendale Trail at Hadfield for walking and cycling

Norfolk Square and Market Hall, Glossop
