Celebrating the New Year

At this time of year, many of us are considering our aims for the coming year. Perhaps improving your carbon footprint and choosing a greener way to travel is something you would like to prioritise this year. Or maybe you are looking to do some volunteering, making new connections and helping your local community. We have outlined below a few of the ways our Community Rail Partnership can help with these aims.

A greener mode of transport
  • Besides walking, wheeling and cycling, choosing to travel by train is the lowest-carbon form of transport, according to the Community Rail Network.
  • Travelling by train helps to reduce traffic congestion in both rural and urban communities, minimising noise and air pollution whether you are commuting for work or adventure.
  • According to Better Transport, choosing the train instead of a car saves the same carbon as powering your phone for up to 8 years or boiling the kettle up to 455 times. Choosing the train is one of the simplest things someone can do to minimise their carbon footprint and make a difference, one journey at a time.

Volunteer for a good cause
  • Volunteering as a Station Adopter is a wonderful way to help your community and improve your local station. It’s a great way to meet new people, and to build community engagement.
  • In our area, the Friends of station groups are supported by our High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership and in turn, much of our work is driven by their ideas and projects.
